The Asus built Google Nexus 7″ has been a huge hit, with positive reviews from around the globe. Looking for a small tablet, then look no further.
Looks like the 8 version’s have been discontinued, if you visit http://www.google.com/nexus/7/ (the link goes via HideMyAss to allow SA users to see US pricing), in favour of the new 32GB version with 3G as an option. Pricing is now $199 for the 16GB version, $249 for the 32GB and $299 for the 32GB + 3G.
- 199 US dollars = 1847.48 South African rand – 14.05.2013
- 199 US dollars = 1829.20 South African rand – 17.03.2013
Pricing correct as of 14th May 2013 and all include VAT – I won’t be updating the 8GB version pricing as it has been discontinued & I don’t consider it the best option.
I have confirmed by calling Asus on 011-783 5450 and speaking to 2 different salespeople that First Technology Office are an Asus recommended retailer whereas some of the other suppliers here are supplying grey products. What does this mean? – you’re less likely to get support for your grey product.

*** remember when buying from Bidorbuy that you are dealing with private sellers very often and so some caution is necessary. Best if you can collect your goods.
The actual price from Expansys is R2899.99 and R3599.99 but as we all know that this is to try bullshit your brain into seeing “less than is there”, I upped them by 1c. Consider the price as stated with a 1c discount! I’ve done a similar thing for the R2999.00 pricing, except you get a R1.00 discount. Let’s cut the crap people!

Small Print/Disclaimer
As usual, I am not responsible for any errors or ommissions. I’ve provided this info for your info, don’t take it as gospel as I am human and often make mistakes.
there is no Micro USB Slot (up to 32GB SDHC) slot on the nexus 7
Corrected thanks – No SD but there is a Micro USB
Thank you for this very useful info. Will be getting two of the 3G versions as Christmas gifts.
Yay! wish I was getting one from Father Christmas. Let us know your thoughts once you’ve used them a bit.
First Technology Office is not listed as an official Asus retailer (see: http://za.asus.com/About_ASUS/where_to_buy/).
Have you ever sucessfully purchased anything from them before?
True, they are not listed on Asus SA’s website but apparently not due to lack of effort to get listed by First Technology. [This is apparently because they are a VAS – Value Added Seller and a smaller portion of their business is online.] If you look you’ll see that even their phone number is out of date and they reference asus.co.za which is no longer active. I tried calling them on their new number ‘0861 ASUS SA’ and got tired of being patient, so I’ve mailed them to confirm ’20th Dec’ and will post back as soon as I’ve heard from them. I’ve dealt with my local First Technology on a few occasion’s over the past 6 or so years.
Called 011-783 5450 (26th Jan 2013) and had 2 consultants confirm that they are ASUS approved dealers.
Thank you Grant for this useful information and making the effort to do the phone calls etc. I did not realise that there was version with 3g.
Rob
I will like to know if this can be used as a ophopne n wi-fi and how much it is.
No phone functionality on the Nexus 7 if that is what you are asking.
Please let me know if the Asus Google Nexus 7″
32GB with 3G will be available next year. I see while browsing that it says they are discontinuing it! I hope that’s not the case as I would love to buy one.
I’ll think you’ll find old stock online if you look around. Or you can look for 2nd hand.
