Lenovo XClarity Essentials Bootable Media Creator (BoMC)
This is the easiest way to update you IBM server prior to having an OS installed. It will update the uEFI BIOS, DSA, RAID Firmware & IMM2.
I used the lnvgy_utl_lxce_bomc01g-12.4.0_windows_i386.exex version from here and made sure to right-click the file, unblock it, run in Windows 8 compatibility and as Administrator. Documentation PDF is on the same page.
Make sure your path length is not too long or you will get errors like I got, “failed to decompress”. I shortened the path and it was then able to decompress and write to the USB stick.
Once you have written the updates to your USB stick or DVD then boot your server from that drive and give it a long time to install the updates.
No spaces in path
All BoMC paths must use standard English-language alphanumeric characters and must not include spaces, special characters, or non-English language characters.
IMM2 – Integrated Management Module 2nd Generation
This allows you to manage the server across the network. Not compatible with IMM.
Firmware Versions: 3.73, 4.97, 6.80, 7.60, 8.00
Default login credentials for IBM IMM (Integrated Management Module) are
Username: USERID
Password: PASSW0RD (with a zero, not the letter O)
FOD – Features On Demand
You can generate a trial key for this feature using the LKMS dashboard here
*The trial key lasts 90 days and will give you the same features as the purchasable option above, but it’s just time limited. You can only generate the trial key once per server.

There are two banks in Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Flash – Primary and Backup.
To enable firmware update, the LAN over USB interface must be enabled.
This can be found in the UEFI menu: systems settings -> Integrated Management Module -> Commands on USB Interface Preference ->
Firmware Versions: 1.05, 1.07 – 16/04/2014, 1.09, 1.90, 2.10
