How to add the Pervasive Database Manager and open necessary TCP ports in your Windows firewall to ensure Pervasive & Sage Pastel can communicate.
Adding the rules can assist in preventing errors & speed up your copy of Sage Pastel.
- STEP 1
- Click Search and type in Firewall
- Select the option Windows Defender Firewall
- On the left, select the option Advanced settings
- On the left, select the option Inbound Rules
- On the right, select the option New Rule…
- Select the option Program and click Next >
- Select ‘This program path:’ and put in the path, once done click Next >
- v9 or 10: %ProgramFiles% (x86)\Pervasive Software\PSQL\bin\w3dbsmgr.exe
- v13: %ProgramFiles% (x86)\Actian\PSQL\bin\w3dbsmgr.exe
- Select Allow the connection and click Next >
- Select Domain, Private and Public and click Next >
- Enter a Name: Pervasive Database Manager
- Optionally enter a Description i.e. Access to Pervasive Program/Database, click Finish to save the rule
- STEP 2
- On the left, select the option Inbound Rules
- On the right, select the option New Rule…
- Select the option Port, click Next >
- Make sure TCP is selected & select Specific local ports: and enter 1583, 3351 then click Next >
- Ensure Allow the connection is selected, click Next >
- Select Domain, Private and Public and click Next >
- Enter a Name: Pervasive Ports
- Optionally enter a Description i.e. Access to Pervasive Ports, click Finish to save the rule
- Repeat the above 2 steps for Outbound Rules
ESET Firewall Rules for Pervasive
- Open the main program window of your ESET Windows product
- Press the F5 key on your keyboard to access Advanced setup or under Setup click Advanced setup in the lower right corner
- Click Network Protection>Firewall, expand Advanced (in newer versions of ESET click Protections>Network Access protection>Firewall) and click Edit next to Rules
- Click Add
- Type a name for the rule into the Name field e.g. Pervasive Access
- Under Action select Allow
- Under Application copy and paste the below (Do NOT enter the name of the application)
- v9 or 10: %ProgramFiles% (x86)\Pervasive Software\PSQL\bin\w3dbsmgr.exe
- v13: %ProgramFiles% (x86)\Actian\PSQL\bin\w3dbsmgr.exe
- Under Direction select Both
- Under IP protocol select TCP & UDP
- Under Local host leave as Any
- Under Local port, in the Port field put in 1583, 3351
- Under Remote host leave as Any
- Under Remote port, in the Port field put in 1583, 3351
- Under Profile leave as Any
- Click OK>OK>OK and allow if it asks for permission to make changes to your device.
The other option it put ESET into Learning or Interactive mode, then attempt connecting from a PC on the network, which will grab the settings automatically.
Error 7224 – User lacks the appropriate rights to authorize or deauthorize a key
If for some reason your Pervasive keeps dropping your license.
- Stop the Pervasive Workgroup Engine by right-clicking on the icon on the task bar and selecting Stop
- Open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Pervasive Software\PSQL\bin
- Right-click w3dbsmgr.exe choose Run As Administrator
- Then re-register your version of Sage Pastel or put your Pervasive Key into the License Administrator
You can also try do a repair on Pervasive, make sure UAC is off and add the Pervasive ports to your firewall.
