My AirID is grant4 – you and I can get a free 5GB of data if you use this when signning up.
I’ve been a super happy customer of Afrihost’s MTN based cellular service, later known as AirMobile, since 2016. Afrihost has recently become an MVNO Mobile Virtual Network Operator and so porting to them was required to give them full access to managing my cellular experience.
An MVNO is a company that does not own a mobile spectrum license but sells mobile services under its brand name using the network of a licensed mobile operator.
The main reason I’ve been so happy with AirMobile is that the airtime I buy lasts 12 months which means I get to use what I buy and hence it goes way further than other providers where you are losing nearly constantly.
Grant Day
Porting
All porting happens between 22h30 – 23h30 on all days except Public holidays.
Triggering
- Mondays-Fridays (Public Holidays Excluded) – 00h00-19h00
- Saturdays (Public Holidays Excluded) – 09h00-13h00
- Sundays – Port Requests are not processed on Sundays
Should the port request be received in time on a particular day and your request is accepted, you should be able to port on the same day that the request is made.
Transfers can also be scheduled for up to 30 days from the date of the request.
The Process
If you are porting your current number, do not insert the new SIM Card in your device until you’ve completed all the porting steps.

- Order your new AirMobile SIM card on their website
- Once you receive your SIM, trigger the Port In either via the AirMobile App or ClientZone on desktop. It is under the Mobile heading in ClientZone.
- You will receive an SMS with a One Time Pin (OTP) to your current cell number from your current network provider, reply to the SMS and input the OTP only and Send. *Standard SMS rates apply.
- You should receive an SMS stating something like “Your port to AirMobile has been authorised and is now in progress. We will keep you updated on the progress.”
- Once your current cell number shows ‘No Service’ and you can no longer dial out or receive calls, you can then insert your new AirMobile SIM into your phone.
- Network configuration settings should automatically be sent to your device. Alternatively, you can manually set up your APN Access Point Name by visiting the AirMobile APN page
- You’re done, enjoy cellular service as it should be.
