If you are unsure/unclear on any of the instructions, find someone to assist you. You could cause more troubles for yourself going off half-cocked.
Be aware, there are multiple ways to do this.
Backing up from within e@syFileTC
- Open e@syFileTC & Login
- Go to Utilities>Database Utilities
- Click BACKUP DB
- Select a destination folder and click OK
- Please be patient, for people with lots of companies and/or who have lots of employees, the backup can take some time
- A message will be displayed indicating whether the database backup was successful or not, click OK
Are you aware of the risks of only backing up to your PC. Fire, flood, theft or ransomware means your data will be lost. Create offsite and online/cloud backups as well, to keep your data safe.
Restoring your e@syFileTC database, from a backup
This will not work if you cannot log in to e@syFileTC. The geniuses at SARS/Interfront are “apparent experts” who keep making beginner mistakes.
Easyfile can only restore all companies, there is no capacity to restore a single company, the only way to restore a single company is to do it manually.
If easyfile is working properly you can use the following, if not you’ll have to do a manual restore
- Go to Utilities>Database Utilities
- Click RESTORE E@SYFILE DB
- Browse to the location from which to restore the database, and select the backup file you want to restore & click Open
- Read the warning and click Yes or Cancel
- If you clicked Yes you should get a Restore Complete message
If you cannot log into e@syFileTC
If you have not done this before and don’t have a manual backup as well as if you cannot log into e@syFileTC we need to create fresh credentials so that we can log in to then be able to restore a previous backup. This will not work if you have lost or incorrect credentials.
- You’ll need to first do a Manual Backup as per Manual backing up e@syFileTC – even though it is unlikely that this data is accessible at this time due to corrupted credentials
- Once you have done a Manual Backup, type services into your Windows Search Bar and Open
- Click in the right-pane and press the e key then find the EasyFileServer service left-click it and then click Stop the service on the left. Leave the Services window open
- Go into File Explorer, in the address bar type C:\EasyFileEmployer and hit enter or browse to the folder
- Open the C:\EasyFileEmployer folder and you should see a folder called EasyFileEmployerDB, rename the folder to something like EasyFileEmployerDB – OLD Faulty 25.03.2026
- Go back to the Services window and click Start the service
- Now open e@syFileTC, it will take some time and might give you an error, if it does then wait 10 minutes and try open again
- You’ll then need to re-enter your credentials as though you are using e@syFileTC for the first time. Make sure to use the same credentials as you did the first time, then click VERIFY
- You’ll then be asked to add a password, put in the password as you first registered it, type it in a 2nd time and put in a password reminder and click REGISTER
- Log in to e@syFileTC to make sure you have the credentials correct then close e@syFileTC
- The next step is important, if you skip it you’ll need to redo the above if you have an issue in the future. We are going to make a copy of these Fresh Credentials in case of issues in the future.
- Go into File Explorer, in the address bar type C:\EasyFileEmployer and hit enter or browse to the folder
- Open the C:\EasyFileEmployer folder and you should see a folder called EasyFileEmployerDB, then with the folder selected press Ctrl+C & then Ctrl+V, you’ll get a message You’ll need to provide administrator permission to copy this folder, click Continue
OR right-click the folder and click Copy then right-click the folder and click Paste, you’ll get a message You’ll need to provide administrator permission to copy this folder, click Continue
Once the Copy is done you should see another folder called EasyFileEmployerDB – Copy – change the folder name to something that more sense to you e.g. EasyFileEmployerDB – Fresh Install - Once you’ve done the above you can go log into e@syFileTC & restore your backup as per Restoring your e@syFileTC database, from a backup
