This error normally occurs when trying to open your Sage Pastel product or a company over a network.
Cause
Status 116 is an error specific to Pervasive not being able to communicate properly across your network. The problem occurs when your Server is not allowing or actively blocking incoming connections from the other PC’s on your network.
If your Sage Pastel was working and now isn’t then the most likely cause is due to Windows security updates or updates to your Anti-virus software. Most updates are fixes to security issues.
Testing
You can use the Pervasive System Analyzer on a client machine (any machine but the server) on your network.
Using the Pervasive System Analyzer (PSA)
- Launch PSA
- Type Pervasive System Analyzer in your Windows search and then hitting enter or clicking the link
- Or access the Pervasive Control Center and find the Pervasive System Analyzer under the UTILITIES menu
- Performing a Network Test
- After starting the PSA, click Next to access the options screen
- Select the option for Test network communication while deselecting other options
- Enter the target machine’s name (the server where Pervasive is installed) in the provided field and click Next
- Testing Process
- In a few seconds the PSA will transmit 75 test messages via TCP/IP to verify connectivity
- Upon completion, results will indicate whether all messages were successfully sent, confirming a stable network communication
If the test does not complete, seeing where it fails can help with troubleshooting.
- The machines should be using TCP/IP, preferably with fixed IP addresses.
- The DNS (naming) must be enabled, and the machines must be able to resolve each other by name.
- They could use other protocols, provided all the machines on the network are communicating using that particular protocol.
- You must be able to ping the machines by name. Pervasive still needs to see machines on the network by name, as it stores this information in the pvsw.loc file.
If you were to open the loc file in Notepad, you will find the machine name and not the IP address of the gateway machine - The network communication must be stable and consistent, network technicians can test this by running a continual ping to the server or workgroup machines to test. If the machine fails on consistency it will cause problems every time if fails on communicating.
- In some cases firewall or antivirus might cause issues depending on security set.
